CAIR Welcomes Walkout for Netanyahu’s UN Speech as ‘Rejection of Genocide’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a mass walkout of members of the United Nations General Assembly prior to a speech by far-right Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu as symbolic of the international community’s “rejection of genocide.”

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“As the far-right, openly racist Israeli government continues its genocide in Gaza and expands its campaign of state terrorism to civilians in Lebanon, this mass walkout during war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech demonstrates the international community’s rejection of genocide. President Biden should take note of our government’s growing isolation on the international stage, change his policy, and support human rights and international law, without an exception for the Palestinian people.”

Yesterday, CAIR called on President Biden to “stop acting like a bystander” and force a ceasefire on Israel’s Netanyahu government after Israeli forces slaughtered civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.

Also yesterday, CAIR called on all Americans who stand against genocide to contact their U.S. Senators and urge them to vote YES on Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block more than $20 billion in illegal U.S. weapons sales to Israel.
