Community Advisory: Join CAIR and Anne Arundel County for Palestine for a FREE Screening of ‘The Encampments’

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Anne Arundel County for Palestine invites community members to a free screening of the film The Encampments on Wednesday, July 2, in Annapolis, Maryland. Join us for an insightful panel discussion following the screening, with CAIR National’s Staff Attorney, Ahmad Kaki.

The newly released documentary The Encampments captures the powerful wave of student-led Palestine solidarity protests that swept across U.S. college campuses in 2024. Through vivid footage and firsthand accounts, the film highlights the courage and coordination behind the encampments, with student organizer Mahmoud Khalil emerging as a steady, diplomatic voice within the movement. From late-night negotiations to moments of unity and resistance, the film documents how young activists used peaceful protest to challenge institutional complicity in global injustice.

Khalil’s leadership extended beyond the screen. Earlier this year, he was unjustly detained by ICE—a move widely condemned as retaliation for his activism. A federal judge recently ordered his release, affirming his right to free speech and due process. Khalil’s story is a testament to the power of student organizing, the importance of legal advocacy, and the growing momentum behind a movement rooted in justice and human rights.
