(BALTIMORE, MD, 10/18/2023) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and more than two dozen statewide mosques and Islamic organizations today submitted a joint letter to congressional representatives and elected officials expressing support for the children of Gaza by demanding an immediate ceasefire and delivery of humanitarian aid into the besieged city.
The letter reads in part:
“Every innocent life taken is a travesty, but the continued loss of children is a failure of our collective humanity. At this moment, we stand with the children of Gaza. One million children make up half the population of Gaza, widely known as the largest open-air prison in the world which is under total siege. More than 1,000 Palestinian children in Gaza have been killed by Israeli forces from October 7 to October 16 as surviving children suffer untold physical and emotional consequences as a result of intensive Israeli bombardment and unprecedented internal displacement. The humanitarian crisis is worsening by the minute.
“Time is of the essence, as water has run out and children in Gaza are now having to resort to drinking seawater.
“We call for peace and an immediate ceasefire, and demand that US taxpayer funds be used to immediately de-escalate and prevent any additional loss of life. We call for the immediate implementation of a humanitarian corridor to allow access for food, water, medical aid and supplies, and the restoration of water, electricity and fuel to protect the health and well-being of children and families.
