Take Action Before Next Week’s Vote: Urge Congress to Stop U.S. War on Iran by Supporting Bipartisan War Powers Resolution

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today urged all Americans to immediately contact their members of Congress and demand support for the bipartisan Khanna–Massie War Powers Resolution to block President Trump from launching an unauthorized war against Iran.

TAKE ACTION NOW: TELL CONGRESS: NO U.S. WAR WITH IRAN

House Democratic Leadership has announced that they will force a vote next week on the measure, requiring every member of the House of Representatives to go on record on whether they support military action against Iran without congressional approval.

This development comes just after Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer made public his support for a corresponding Senate measure, signaling growing momentum in Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over decisions of war and peace.

Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA), co-sponsor of the House resolution with Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), posted on X:

“We will force a vote on @RepThomasMassie and my bipartisan resolution to stop Trump from launching an illegal war in Iran next week. This perhaps will be the most consequential vote in Congress on war or peace since the Iraq war vote in 2002.”

The vote comes amid escalating tensions and growing concern that the United States could be drawn into another catastrophic Middle East conflict without public debate or congressional authorization.

In a statement, CAIR Director of Government Affairs Department Robert S. McCaw said:

“Congress must act immediately to prevent the United States from sliding into another disastrous war of choice in the Middle East. The Constitution is clear: only Congress has the authority to declare war. No president should be permitted to launch a regime-change war against Iran – or any country – without explicit authorization from the American people’s elected representatives.

“Recent polling shows that a majority of Americans do not want the United States to start another war with Iran and remember the catastrophic consequences of the Iraq War, which was launched on false premises and cost hundreds of thousands of lives, trillions of dollars, and decades of instability. This vote may determine whether our nation repeats that tragic mistake or chooses diplomacy and restraint.

“Military conflict with Iran would endanger American troops, destabilize the broader region, disrupt global energy markets, and risk a wider war involving multiple state and non-state actors.

“At this dangerous moment, Congress must put the Constitution, the safety of American service members, and the will of the American people ahead of political pressure or foreign entanglements. History will remember how each member of Congress votes.”

Renewed diplomacy, not military escalation, remains the only viable path to addressing concerns about Iran’s nuclear program while protecting American lives and interests.

Before the 12-day U.S.-Israel war against Iran last summer, CAIR called on President Trump to avert an “unnecessary and disastrous” all-out U.S. war with Iran by dropping Israel’s “poison pill” zero enrichment demand meant to doom nuclear negotiations.

Last year, CAIR also condemned Israel’s unilateral offensive strikes on Iran and called on the Trump administration to immediately halt all U.S. weapons transfers and military aid to the Netanyahu government.

CAIR previously issued a statement warning President Trump that the Netanyahu government’s insistence that the U.S. adopt a “zero-enrichment” demand in negotiations was meant to scuttle the talks and lead to war, which is exactly what happened.
