(WASHINGTON D.C., 10/4/2021) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the theft of American and German flags and the raising of a “traitorous” Confederate flag at a U.S. military base in Germany.
The Confederate flag was found flying from a flagpole outside 2nd Cavalry Regiment headquarters in Vilseck, Germany, Monday. An American flag and a German flag also were stolen from inside the headquarters building. The Defense Department has effectively banned the Confederate flags from public display on military bases.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“It is shocking that anyone would fly the traitorous Confederate flag at a facility housing our nation’s military; the same military that fought the Confederacy and the slavery and white supremacy it sought to perpetuate in our nation.”
He noted that CAIR has called for the removal of all symbols of the Confederacy in the military and nationwide.
