(WASHINGTON D.C., 11/19/2021) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on Alabama’s Cullman City School District to take action to address a racist video.
Earlier this month, a video was circulated on Snapchat showing the school board president’s son chanting “white power” and “kill all the n*****s.” In response to outcry from parents, the school district said they could do nothing since the video was filmed off-campus. According to some parents, the school district’s inaction is part of a pattern of tolerating racism.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ismail Allison said:
“By failing to adequately address this disturbing incident, the school district is sending the message that students of color are not important and that their safety is less important than that of other students. We call on the Cullman City School District to take strong measures to address the actions of the student who made the racist and threatening video and to enact policies to combat racism in schools.”
Allison said CAIR and the American Muslim community are standing in solidarity with all those challenging anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and white supremacy.
