CAIR Welcomes President-Elect Trump’s Decisions on Haley and Pompeo, Disagrees with Stefanik Nomination

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today responded to several decisions made by President-elect Trump on appointments to his upcoming administration

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has been named as ambassador to the United Nations. On Saturday, Trump said neither former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley nor former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will have a role in his new administration.

In a statement, CAIR National Deputy Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell said:

“We encourage President-elect Trump to appoint foreign policy officials who will respect international law and put American interests over the interests of any foreign country, including Benjamin Netanyahu’s out-of-control government, which wants to bait our nation into a war with Iran and waste more American taxpayer dollars on its genocidal war in Gaza.

“President-elect Trump’s decision to turn away war hawks Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo is a promising step in the right direction. Although we disagree with the nomination of Rep. Stefanik as U.N. ambassador, given her hostility toward free speech and human rights, we will at least be spared the pretenses and hypocrisies of President Biden’s United Nations team, which used the international body to champion the human rights of Ukrainians while trampling on the human rights of Palestinians.”

Last week, CAIR released the first set of results from its 2024 exit poll of 1,575 verified American Muslim voters.

The national results show Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein received 53% of the Muslim vote, followed by President-elect Donald Trump with 21% and Vice President Kamala Harris with 20%.

CAIR also released Michigan-specific responses from 502 registered Muslim voters, revealing that Dr. Stein received 59% support, with Trump at 22% and Harris at 14%.

CAIR’s national exit poll survey was conducted by Molitico Consulting LLC via text message to a randomized list of verified registered Muslim voters on November 5-6, with a confidence interval of 95% and a margin of error of +/- 2.47 percentage points. CAIR’s final pre-election poll showed Stein and Harris statistically tied at 42 and 41 percent with Trump trailing at 10%.
