The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said the Biden administration must end arms shipments to Israel after a new report by Amnesty International, titled “You Feel Like You Are Subhuman’: Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza,” concludes that Israel has committed – and still is committing – genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
“Amnesty International’s report demonstrates that Israel has carried out acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention, with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza. These acts include killings, causing serious bodily or mental harm and deliberately inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction. Month after month, Israel has treated Palestinians in Gaza as a subhuman group unworthy of human rights and dignity, demonstrating its intent to physically destroy them,” said Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International.
“Our damning findings must serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide. It must stop now.
“States that continue to transfer arms to Israel at this time must know they are violating their obligation to prevent genocide and are at risk of becoming complicit in genocide. All states with influence over Israel, particularly key arms suppliers like the USA and Germany, but also other EU member states, the UK and others, must act now to bring Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza to an immediate end.”
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“We welcome the fact that an internationally-respected organization like Amnesty International would clearly state what has become obvious to the entire world – with the exception of Biden administration officials – that the far-right government of indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu is intentionally and obviously committing genocide in Gaza. The Biden administration has unfortunately been a full partner in this genocide.
“Based on the conclusion of this report and on countless similar reports documenting Israel’s genocide, we demand that President Biden order an immediate ban on weapons deliveries to the genocidal Israeli government.
“Future generations will ask what the world did or did not do to stop this genocide and hold the war criminals accountable. Every human being must make a choice today whether they support genocide, or if they will fight to bring it to an end.”
Earlier today, CAIR welcomed the Norwegian wealth fund divesting from an Israeli company that provides telecommunications services to illegal settlements in the West Bank. CAIR also condemned a series of Israeli war crimes in the West Bank and Gaza.
The Israeli military has reportedly advised its soldiers who invaded the Gaza Strip to avoid travelling abroad for fear of arrest in the aftermath of court orders issued by the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
