The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-GA), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today offered condolences on the passing of Palestinian-American Father George Makhlouf at the age of 81.
Father Makhlouf was a vocal advocate for Palestinian human rights and frequently called on Georgia politicians to support a more just foreign policy.
In a statement, CAIR-Georgia Executive Director Azka Mahmood said:
“On behalf of the Georgia Muslim community, we extend our condolences to the family of Father George Makhlouf. Father George was always there to stand up for oppressed people, here and abroad, and he was a model for interfaith collaboration. He was also just a truly kind, warm person. May God comfort his family in the wake of his passing. To God we belong, and to God we return.”
CAIR-Georgia’s mission is to protect civil rights, promote justice, empower American Muslims, and enhance the understanding of Islam.
