CAIR Says Sharp Rise in Negative U.S. Views of Israel Shows Failure of Gaza Genocide Censorship

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said a new Pew poll documenting a significant rise in negative views of the Israeli government among the American people shows the failure of unprecedented attempts to smear and censor critics of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

According to a new Pew poll, majority of Americans (53%) now hold an unfavorable view of Israel, up from 42% in 2022.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“The news that a majority of the American people now view the Israeli government negatively demonstrates that unprecedented attempts to smear and censor critics of Israel’s war crimes in Gaza have failed.

“Because the American people could directly watch the horrific footage of war crimes in Gaza on social media, learn about the suffering of the Palestinian people from their diverse neighbors, and witness dishonest attacks on college students and other brave activists across our nation, the American people have been able to cut through biased narratives, bypass dishonest politicians, and see the truth for themselves.

“Now is the time for our nation’s leaders to reflect the wishes of the American people, who do not want our tax dollars wasted funding war crimes overseas while people across our nation struggle to make ends meet.”

Earlier today, CAIR condemned the Israeli government’s latest massacre of civilians in Gaza after its fighters bombed a residential building, killing at least 29 men, women and children and leaving 80 people missing under the rubble.

Yesterday, CAIR welcomed a statement from the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention condemning Israel, the U.S., Canada, and Europe for perpetrating genocide in Gaza, as United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today said that Gaza has become “a killing field.”
