The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called for an immediate halt to U.S. bombing of Yemen after 68 people were reportedly killed by an American strike on a detention center for African migrants in that nation.
According to Reuters news agency: “[F]ootage showed bodies covered in dust amid blood-stained rubble. Rescue workers carried a man who was moving slightly on a stretcher. A survivor could be heard calling ‘My mother’ in Amharic, the main language of Ethiopia.”
Earlier this month, CAIR condemned the killing of 74 people in Yemen in a US airstrike as a war crime.
In a statement, CAIR said:
“The Pentagon’s reported massacre of African migrants at a detention center in Yemen demonstrates the senseless nature of this indiscriminate bombing campaign, which has not been authorized by Congress.
“We call on President Trump to order an immediate halt to this latest forever war and force an end to the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza so that this conflict with Yemen can also come to a permanent end.”
Last month, CAIR called on President Trump to protect civilian life when approving any military operations after national security officials “casually celebrated” the killing of Yemeni civilians, including a woman, in Signal chat messages released by reporter Jeffery Goldberg.
Also last month, CAIR condemned congressionally unauthorized U.S. strikes on Yemen that killed at least 53, reportedly including children and women.
