CAIR Welcomes Congressional Letter Calling for Action Against Uyghur Forced Labor

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed a letter by Senators Pete Ricketts, Jeff Merkley, John Curtis, and Chris Coons calling for action against the Chinese government’s use of Uyghur forced labor.

In a bipartisan letter to Christopher Pratt, Chair of the Forced Labor Enforcement Task Force (FLETF), the senators urged measures to prevent China from avoiding the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFPLA).

“We thank Senators Ricketts, Merkley, Curtis, and Coons for their principled stand against tyranny and slavery,” said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw. “The Chinese communist government must be held accountable for its oppression of Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic minorities, and it cannot be allowed to profit off of their crimes.”

He noted that CAIR has previously called for action against the enslavement of Uyghurs by the Chinese government.
