The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on the international community to take action after a report revealed that dozens of western companies are connected with slave labor in the Uyghur region of China.
Global Rights Compliance, an international human rights organization, published a comprehensive report revealing significant connections between Western corporations and China’s critical minerals sector in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, or East Turkestan. Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic minorities in this region have been forced to engage in slave labor by the Chinese government.

“The international community, particularly the governments of western nations, must ensure that none of their corporations are benefiting from the enslavement of Uyghur Muslims and other Turkic ethnic groups,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Profiting off of the genocide of a people must never be tolerated or excused.”
He noted that CAIR has previously opposed the profiting by western corporations off of Uyghur slave labor.
