The North Carolina chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NC), a chapter of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today applauded the Islamic Center of Charlotte for offering to give a mother in need free baby formula during a social experiment.
As part of that experiment, a woman called religious institutions around the country posing as a mother who ran out of baby formula and cannot afford more. Most said they would not give her any. One of the religious institutions that responded positively to the woman was the Islamic Center of Charlotte in North Carolina, which offered to give the woman baby formula.
“We applaud the Islamic Center of Charlotte for demonstrating the morals and behavior taught by our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the Holy Quran,” said CAIR-NC Community Engagement Manager Al Rieder. “Our faith commands us to work to ensure that no one around us is suffering from hunger or lack.”
He quoted the hadith, or saying of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said: “He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbor goes hungry.” [Bukhari]
