The Council on American Islamic Relations, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, calls on community members to take action by thanking the representatives who opposed the bill and expressing severe disappointment to those who supported the misleadingly titled Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, which passed with a vote of 247 – 155. Although the bill passed in the House, it is unlikely to become law as it is expected to be ignored by the Democrat-controlled Senate and is strongly opposed by President Joe Biden.
Use our click-and-send action alert to send a message to the 155 representatives who voted “NO” on this ridiculous bill and send a message to the 247 representatives who voted “YES” expressing our disappointment. Especially the 41 democratic members who voted “YES.”

SEE: US House Passes Legislation to Sanction ICC over Gaza Warrants Bid
The misleadingly titled Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act H.R. 8282 imposes unjust sanctions on individuals and entities involved with the International Criminal Court (ICC), thereby undermining efforts to investigate and prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
This act is a direct retaliation to the ICC’s attempt to secure an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes committed in and around Gaza against the people of Palestine.
These proposed sanctions include blocking property purchases, visa denials, and penalties for violations. Immediate family members of targeted individuals will also face the same restrictions. If signed into law, the act could even target Hollywood actor George Clooney’s wife, Amal Clooney, a British-Lebanese human rights lawyer involved in assisting the ICC in its war crimes investigation against Netanyahu and Gallant.

Subject: Profound Disappointment for Voting YES on the Ridiculous, Misleadingly Titled Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act
I am writing to express my profound disappointment in your recent vote to support H.R. 8282, the misleadingly titled “Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act.” This outrageous legislation undermines the vital work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and sends a deeply troubling message about the United States’ commitment to international justice and accountability.
The ICC is indispensable in prosecuting those responsible for the gravest offenses, including war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. By supporting this bill, you have aligned yourself against the very principles of justice and accountability that are fundamental to our nation’s values. It is common sense to reject such a destructive bill.
Even more alarming, this act could target individuals like Hollywood actor George Clooney’s wife, Amal Clooney, a renowned British-Lebanese human rights lawyer who assists the ICC in its war crimes investigation against Netanyahu and Gallant. Supporting this bill implies a direct attack on those who strive to uphold international justice.
Your vote is deeply concerning to your constituents who believe in upholding the rule of law and supporting institutions that bring justice to victims of the world’s most heinous crimes. I urge you to reconsider your position and support efforts that strengthen, rather than weaken, our global commitment to human rights and justice.
