CAIR-Austin Condemns Distribution of Antisemitic Propaganda

The Austin office of the Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Austin) today condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers in Travis County.

The flyers (police report: 241870252) were reportedly found by the Steiner Ranch neighborhood residents on their property last Thursday.

“We condemn this harassment of our Jewish brothers and sisters in Travis County and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community as they are targeted by this antisemitic, far-right ideology,” said CAIR-Austin Operations Manager Shaimaa Zayan.

She said CAIR Austin calls on anti-hate and anti-defamation organizations to speak out against this antisemitic incident. She added: “There is no place for hate in Travis County and we have to fight hatred of all forms.”

“This is not the first time this far-right, White-supremacy group has targeted the Austin Jewish community. Since 2018, they have done several banner drops in west Austin. It is also essential for us to be clear-eyed in our analysis of antisemitism as we see false claims are being weaponized against the legitimate Palestine liberation movement,” said Joshua Sklar, a member of the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP, Austin).

“The pro-Palestine coalition is an inclusive movement of Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists, and diverse allies. It is a movement against hate, and thus we condemn this hateful incident. The far-right wing is definitely a threat to all of us,” said Zainab Haider, an organizer with the Austin for Palestine Coalition (AFPC).

Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
