(AUSTIN, TX, 4/11/2022) – The Austin chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Austin) today condemned a reported hate crime and assault targeting a Muslim student on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos.
The victim reported that on March 31, she was approached by an unknown man while she was jogging. The man allegedly attempted to forcibly remove the victim’s hijab, or headscarf. The man also reportedly made derogatory statements about the victim’s perceived national origin and religion. Campus police describe the suspected perpetrator as a white male in his early to mid 20’s with medium brown hair and a high and tight haircut, no facial hair, with tattoos and piercings.
