CAIR Backs UEFA Move to Vote on Suspending Israel Over Genocide in Gaza

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed support for a move by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to vote on suspending Israel’s membership due to its ongoing genocide in Gaza.

UEFA’s executive committee is expected to support any vote in favor of suspending Israeli teams from international play.

In a statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR said:

“We support the move by UEFA to stand against the Israeli government’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and its decades-long system of apartheid and occupation targeting the Palestinian people. Sports must never be used to normalize war crimes or shield governments from accountability. Just as South Africa was excluded from international sports during apartheid, Israel must also face consequences for its crimes against humanity.”

Yesterday, CAIR called on the Trump administration and Congress to condemn the overnight Israeli terror bombing of the new Gaza humanitarian aid flotilla carrying U.S. citizens and to demand its safe passage to bring supplies to the forcibly-starved people of Gaza.

Also yesterday, CAIR’s Michigan chapter called on elected officials in Michigan to publicly condemn and take action in response to the murder of five civilians—including three children and their father—by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.
