(WASHINGTON, D.C., 8/31/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on law enforcement authorities in Butte, Mont. to investigate the alleged vandalism of a woman’s car as a possible hate crime.
The car’s windows were smashed and racist slurs were spray-painted on the car late Sunday night. Police are currently investigating the incident but have not said they are investigating it as a possible hate crime.

“No one should have their property damaged or be subjected to racist intimidation of any kind,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “We urge law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive in this disturbing attack.”
Hooper added that CAIR recently condemned the distribution of neo-Nazi propaganda CD’s to homes in Miles City, Mont., racist graffiti targeting homes and cars in Montgomery, Ala.
