The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on media outlets in the United States and worldwide to condemn the murder of Al Jazeera journalist Hossam Shabat and Palestine Today journalist Mohammad Mansour by Israeli forces in Gaza.
Journalist and contributor to Al Jazeera Mubasher Hossam Shabat was killed in an Israeli air strike that targeted his car in northern Gaza. Earlier today, Israeli forces killed journalist and Palestine Today correspondent Mohammad Mansour in an attack targeting a house in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

In a statement, CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper said:
“As the Israeli government resumes its indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, it has also resumed its targeted assassinations of journalists. Reporters Hossam Shabat, Mohammad Mansour and so many others like them were targeted and killed solely because they shed light on the atrocities of the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza. Media outlets in the United States and across the world must stand up in defense of their colleagues in Gaza. The lives of journalists who are Muslim, Palestinian or people of color should matter to media outlets just as much as journalists who are white, European or Christian.”
He noted that yesterday, CAIR responded to the minimum death toll in Gaza crossing 50,000 men, women and children killed by saying that the Trump administration’s support for the Israeli government’s war crimes makes it just as complicit as the Biden administration.
