The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said the international community and Muslim-majority nations in particular must take action to ensure the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites, after an Israeli extremist organization threatened to destroy it.
The extremist organization known as ‘Temple Mount’ published a video clip showing the burning of Al-Aqsa Mosque with the caption: “coming Soon in these days,” referring to the destruction of the mosque and the establishment of the temple in its place.
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“This is not the first time that Israeli extremists, including government officials, have threatened to destroy the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is incumbent upon the international community to take action to prevent the destruction of one of the treasures of human civilization, and upon Muslim-majority nations in particular to defend Islam’s holy sites. Just as the far-right Israeli government’s physical genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza must end, so must the threats to pursue a cultural genocide in Jerusalem.”
He noted that CAIR previously condemned Israeli threats and attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
