The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the Biden administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, for attempting to justify the Israeli government’s “lawless” attacks on Syria.
Since the fall of the Assad dictatorship, Israel has launched hundreds of attacks on Syria and invaded its territory.
Earlier this week, CAIR condemned Israel’s invasion and bombing of Syria as “new and escalating crimes.”
In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:
“We strongly condemn the Biden administration, especially Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan, for attempting to justify the Israeli government’s lawless, criminal bombing of Syria. Secretary Blinken, Mr. Sullivan and other members of the Biden foreign policy team have spent the past year shredding international law, enabling war crimes, and lying to the American people, all at the behest of Benjamin Netanyahu and his racist, genocidal regime. The end of the Biden team’s disastrous time in office cannot come quickly enough.”
The UN General Assembly recently adopted a resolution demanding Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied Golan Heights, which it seized in 1967. That resolution stated, “the continued occupation of the Syrian Golan and its de facto annexation constitute a stumbling block in the way of achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.”
CAIR congratulated the Syrian-American community, the liberated people of Syria, the Muslim world, and everyone who supports justice for all on the fall of the brutal Assad dictatorship.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
