The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a reported demonstration by an armed neo-Nazi in Valparaiso, Indiana.
That neo-Nazi protester was reportedly dressed in military gear and a face mask while carrying a sign with a nazi swastika that read, “Keep the Region White.” That individual allegedly told passing motorist, “Go find yourself a nice white girl,” and shouted, “White power,” accompanied by a Nazi salute. He also reportedly made disparaging comments about immigrants. His sign included a link to the “National Socialists of NWI.” Local officials have denounced the demonstration.
“Public support for neo-Nazi ideology, particularly by an individual who was reportedly armed, is designed to intimidate minority communities,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Such displays of hate must be repudiated by all Americans who value mutual respect and inclusion in our society.”
He noted that CAIR recently condemned white supremacist rallies in Cumberland, Rhode Island, and Paducah, Kentucky.
Hooper said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
