The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the “glaring omission” of the Gaza genocide from the U.S. State Department’s latest Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, calling the report’s treatment of Israel deeply inadequate and morally indefensible.
According to Reuters: “The report’s section on Israel was much shorter than last year’s edition and contained no mention of the severe humanitarian crisis or death toll in Gaza.”

In a statement, CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw said:
“The State Department’s failure to acknowledge the systematic destruction, mass displacement, forced starvation, and indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza represents not just a diplomatic failure, but a moral one. This glaring omission undermines the credibility of the entire report and sends a dangerous message that certain human rights abuses—particularly those committed by U.S. allies—will be ignored or excused.
“The international community, including leading human rights organizations and legal scholars, has identified the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza as genocide. For our government to remain silent on this only serves to highlight its complicity with genocide.”
Yesterday, CAIR condemned Israel’s U.S.-backed “unrelenting slaughter” of forcibly-starved civilians in Gaza after at least 31 people were murdered as they desperately sought food for their starving families.
Also this week, CAIR welcomed a decision by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to recognize a Palestinian state at next month’s United Nations General Assembly but said that Western nations now recognizing Palestine must go further by imposing an arms embargo on Israel over its ongoing genocide in Gaza.
On Sunday, CAIR condemned Israel’s assassination of five Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza and called on U.S. and international media professionals to stand in solidarity with their Palestinian colleagues under attack.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
