The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned the latest war crime of the far-right Israeli government, which ordered the stoppage of all electricity transmission to Gaza.
Last week, CAIR called on all Americans to urge their members of Congress in the U.S. House and Senate to condemn the Israeli government’s decision to block all humanitarian aid entering Gaza—recognized as a war crime under international law—while also denouncing Israel’s latest forced displacement and ethnic cleansing campaign in the West Bank.
Media reports indicate that “the Israeli decision to halt aid into Gaza was coordinated with the Trump administration.”
TAKE ACTION: URGE CONGRESS TO CONDEMN ISRAEL’S LATEST ACT OF GENOCIDE IN GAZA
[NOTE: Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that the Israeli government is working to establish a “migration administration” that will oversee the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Gaza.]
In a statement, CAIR said:
“By openly trying to starve and freeze an entire civilian population to death, the far-right government of indicted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu has once again clearly demonstrated its genocidal intent in Gaza. Banning food, water, fuel, medical supplies – and now electricity – threatens the lives of everyone in Gaza.
“The United States and other western nations must stop treating Palestinians as less than human and stop giving this one government impunity as it flagrantly violates international law.”
Last week, CAIR said Israel is continuing its “war on Islam” with raids on mosques in the occupied West Bank on the first Friday in Ramadan, during which a prominent mosque was set on fire.
Last year, CAIR welcomed arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza genocide, with the court finding both men “bear criminal responsibility for the following crimes as co-perpetrators for committing the acts jointly with others: the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.”
Internationally-respected organizations like Human Rights Watch say, “The Israeli government is using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare in the Gaza Strip, which is a war crime.” Amnesty International has concluded that “Israel has committed and is continuing to commit genocide against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip,” and a UN Special Committee said: “Israel’s warfare in Gaza is consistent with the characteristics of genocide.”
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
