(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/26/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned neo-Nazi vandalism of an immigrant community center in Portland by a suspect who reportedly had a cache of weapons and racist materials at his home.
A 35-year-old West Linn man allegedly posted a message on a fence on the center’s property depicting a man wearing a black face mask and performing a Nazi salute. [NOTE: The group depicted in the neo-Nazi message advocates violence against Jewish people, immigrants and communities of color.]
He has been charged with a second-degree bias crime. Police reportedly discovered numerous rifles, handguns, and neo-Nazi propaganda material at the suspect’s residence. The man is also expected to face first and second degree bias crime and third degree criminal mischief charges.

“We welcome bias crime charges for the suspected perpetrator of this disturbing incident,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “No community should be subjected to racist and white supremacist intimidation. We thank law enforcement authorities for their diligent work on this case.”
He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and white supremacy.
