The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today condemned a reported demonstration Saturday by a white supremacist neo-Nazi group, Aryan Freedom Network, in Marion, Iowa.
The city said in a statement: “The City is aware of a small demonstration that occurred earlier today in Uptown Marion by a group identifying as a neo-Nazi organization. While their views do not reflect the values of our community, they did have a First Amendment right to peaceful assembly and expression.”
“We condemn this hate rally and view it as further evidence of the growing promotion of racist and white supremacist ideologies nationwide that often leads to violence and bias targeting minority communities,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “All Americans, whatever their background, should repudiate all forms of bigotry and promote mutual understanding.”
He noted that CAIR has similarly condemned neo-Nazi activities nationwide.
Earlier this year, CAIR condemned a march by the white supremacist group Patriot Front in Des Moines, Iowa.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
