(WASHINGTON, D.C., 11/3/2022) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed solidarity with the Christian community in Vermont after a church in that state was targeted with hate vandalism.
Police are investigating the allegedly hate-motivated crime at the Pleasant Street Baptist Church in Saint Johnsbury, Vt., in which someone spray-painted a pentagram and the word “Saten” [sic] on the back of the building.

“We stand in solidarity with the Christian community in Vermont as it is targeted by hate and urge law enforcement authorities to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “Americans of all faiths must stand together whenever any house of worship is violated.”
He noted that earlier today, CAIR’s Missouri chapter condemned the distribution of antisemitic flyers to homes in Springfield, Mo.

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.
CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
