The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today expressed its support for the Muslim community in Ireland after an arson attack on a mosque in Limerick.
Last night, arsonists set fire to the Islamic Cultural Center in Limerick. It took fire teams 40 minutes to extinguish the fire. Police are investigating the attack.

“We condemn this despicable attack and stand in solidarity with the Muslim community in Ireland,” said CAIR National Communications Manager Ismail Allison. “All attacks on houses of worship must be investigated thoroughly by law enforcement authorities and repudiated by political and religious leaders.”
Last year, CAIR similarly expressed solidarity with the Muslim community in Ireland after two men were arrested for an alleged terrorist plot by a right-wing group to attack Galway Mosque.
Last month, CAIR expressed solidarity with the Muslim community in Scotland after a mosque was targeted with hate graffiti.
Washington, D.C., based CAIR urged Muslim community leaders to use CAIR’s “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety” booklet, which offers advice on how to help keep religious facilities safe. The advice in the booklet is applicable to houses of worship of all faiths.
