CAIR: FBI Asked to Probe Bias Attack on NY Muslim

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 9/16/07) – A prominent national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group today called on the FBI to investigate an attack on a Muslim businesswoman in New York as a hate crime.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the Muslim owner of a nail and facial salon was beaten Saturday in what local police are calling a bias attack. The woman was badly beaten and anti-Muslim slurs were scrawled on mirrors in the salon. The attackers allegedly told her, “Your kind isn’t welcomed here. You don’t belong here.”
