In surveillance video, a person is seen approaching the mosque “just moments before a flash is seen and the fire starts,” according to a Facebook post by the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. Maj. David Thompson said in a video: “Evidence has revealed that this fire was set intentionally.”
Yesterday, the Massachusetts chapter of CAIR called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate vandalism at a New Hampshire mosque as a possible hate crime.

On Friday, CAIRâ€™s New York chapter welcomed a hate crime chargeÂ for an attack on two Muslim women pushing babies in strollers during which the alleged attacker punched and kicked the victims and tried to pull off their Islamic head scarves, or hijabs.

CAIR has noted a spike in anti-Muslim discrimination and hate crimes in recent months, which the civil rights groups attributes at least in part to Islamophobic rhetoric used by variousÂ public figures.
