CAIR-GA Joins Interfaith ICE Rally Calling for Immigration Reform

CAIR logo(ATLANTA, GA, 5/31/16) – The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Georgia) recently joined other religious leaders and immigration reform advocates at an interfaith rally outside the Atlanta headquarters of U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement.

Rally participants called for an overhaul of the nation's immigration system, particularly its treatment of immigrants fleeing violence in Central America.

“As a former prosecutor, I understand and respect the need for law enforcement to uphold our laws, including our immigration laws,” said CAIR-Georgia Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell. “But how we enforce the law matters. The law must be enforced reasonably, compassionately and justly. Breaking up families is not reasonable. Raiding homes is not compassionate. Deporting people trying to escape war is not just.”
