CAIR Hosts Archbishop Theodosios of Jerusalem During D.C. Visit

Archbishop-Theodosios(WASHINGTON, D.C., 10/16/14) — The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today hosted Greek Orthodox Archbishop Theodosios (Atallah Hanna) of Jerusalem at its Capitol Hill headquarters.

Archbishop Theodosios spoke to a gathering of local community leaders about the need for unity of purpose among faiths. He denounced rhetorical attacks on Islam in the United States as not being representatives of Christianity or America, and said attacks on Christianity in the Middle East are not representative of Islam.

The archbishop also said that the dwindling number of Christians in Palestine and the Middle East is a threat to the Muslim world because it violates the teachings of tolerance in Islam.

“His Excellency Archbishop Theodosios is a courageous and principled spokesperson for the cause of tolerance, coexistence and justice. We are honored to have him visit us today,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad.

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
