CAIR Houston to Join Press Conference in Defense of African-American Muslim Inmates’ Rights

Inmates reputedly placed in solitary confinement with no lights, no water, no heat, no clothes, and with no charges for violation of prison rules

CAIR-Houston will join attorneys, other Muslim leaders and prisoner rights activists at a press conference Thursday, January 11, at 11 am, at the SHAPE Community Center, 3815 Live Oak, in Houston, Texas, to report on alleged mistreatment of two African-American Muslim inmates.

The inmates say they are facing retaliation because both men spoke about the horrible conditions during Hurricane Harvey. Both men were placed into solitary on December 16 with no charges and no disciplinary hearing.

Speakers will include attorney Joaquina Rodriguez, Southwest Regional Student Minister of Mosque 45 Abdul Haleem Muhammad, PhD. and Executive Director of CAIR-Houston Mustafaa Carroll (Council on American-Islamic Relations).
