(BOSTON, MA, 4/14/17) – The Massachusetts chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MA) today condemned racist, pro-Trump graffiti targeting a community center for West African immigrants in Providence, R.I. CAIR-MA is calling for the incident to be investigated as a hate crime.
The graffiti, which read “Trump Rule$ the USA – thank God!” and “Aryan” was left at the headquarters for Inside Higher Ground International, which serves over 100 individuals in the Providence area.
“This cowardly act is the natural consequence of an administration that has consistently demonized immigrants for political gain,” said Dr. John Robbins, executive director of CAIR-MA. “It’s fitting that the words were written on a dumpster, which is where they belong.”
The vandalism took place only a day after an attempted break-in at the Worcester Islamic Center in central Massachusetts. A suspect in that incident has since been arrested:
CAIR recently expressed concern about the “almost daily” attacks on American Muslims and other minority groups nationwide in recent months.
CAIR is asking American Muslims, Islamic institutions and leaders of other minority communities to take extra security precautions outlined in its free booklet, “Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety.” The booklet may be requested through CAIR’s website: http://www.cair.com/mosque-safety-guide.html
CAIR-Massachusetts is a chapter of America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties of all people, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
