“World Hijab Day can mean different things to Muslim women around the world depending on their experiences and perspectives,” said the event’s lead organizer Shahla Mannan. “Ultimately, hijab is the affirmation of our religious identity and a symbol of empowerment. It promotes a sense of solidarity and sisterhood amongst Muslim sisters and encourages respect for religious freedom.”
“Hijab readily identifies a woman as Muslim, and conveys a conviction to please her Creator,” said ICNA Sisters’ spokeswoman Saba Ansari. “This event is meant to help others who aren’t familiar with it, to better understand this practice. We look forward to welcoming everyone who will attend.”
“World Hijab Day is a great opportunity to dismantle stereotypes that fuel Islamophobia and recognize the importance of respecting diverse beliefs,” said CAIR’s Maryland Director Zainab Chaudry. “Hijab highlights strength and dignity, and by encouraging dialogue and awareness, we can create a more accepting society.
World Hijab Day has announced, “The theme for World Hijab Day 2025, celebrated annually on February 1st, is #HijabisUnsilenced—a powerful movement to amplify the voices of hijab-wearing women around the world. This theme celebrates the strength, resilience, and determination of hijabis who, despite facing stereotypes and prejudice, refuse to be silenced. It highlights the hijab as a symbol of empowerment, identity, and solidarity.”
