(FARMINGTON HILLS, MI, 11/17/17) – The Michigan chapter of the Council American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today expressed concern that the City of Detroit Fire Department is set to reinstate Captain Tim Goodman, who was terminated earlier this year for posting racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic materials on Facebook.

Goodman’s Facebook was littered with almost 100 racist, Islamophobic and xenophobic posts.
Many posts show pictures that Goodman himself took of citizens in the community he was supposed to be serving in his duties as an EMS worker, along with racist and derogatory comments made by Goodman himself.
Goodman is also the subject of a civil rights complaint filed earlier this year with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for his discriminatory treatment of a Muslim EMT that he supervised.
“It is disturbing that the City of Detroit could even contemplate bringing Mr. Goodman back to work given his obvious racial animus toward those he supervised and those he was tasked with serving,” said Amy Doukoure, attorney for CAIR-MI. “There is no place in public service for anyone who holds disdain for others based on their religion, race or background.”
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
