CAIR-MI Meets with Postal Inspectors Over Anti-Muslim Hate Mail

(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 12/20/10) — The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today met with United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) officials to report a series of anti-Muslim hate mailings that have been sent to Islamic centers and Muslim organizations in recent weeks.
CAIR-MI representatives turned over a number of obscene mailings to USPIS officials and were informed that the agency is currently investigating a mailing of a page of the Quran covered in feces mailed to a mosque in Dearborn, Mich. According to USPIS, mailings containing feces, powder and unknown liquids constituent “biological threats.”
CAIR-MI is advising Islamic centers and Muslim schools and organizations to use extreme caution in opening mailings that do not have return addresses and to open such mail using latex gloves. Any institution or individual receiving suspicious mailings are being asked to contact USPIS and CAIR-MI.
CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
