CAIR-MI Welcomes Anti-Profiling Ordinance

(SOUTHFIELD, MI, 1/23/08) – The Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MI) today welcomed the passing of an anti-profiling ordinance by the Hamtramck City Council.
The ordinance, which passed yesterday, bans all city employees including law enforcement officials from inquiring about citizenship status based upon race, ethnicity or religious/ethnic attire except during criminal investigations or arrests for non-civil infractions.
Hamtramck became the second city in Michigan to pass such an ordinance after Detroit’s City Council unanimously approved an anti-profiling ordinance last year.
