According to police, the hammer-wielding assailant targeted mosques in Bay Ridge and Sunset Park over the weekend.

At approximately 5:20 p.m. Saturday evening, the alleged attacker broke windows and a security camera at the Beit El-Maqdis Islamic Center in Sunset Park, on 6th Avenue near 63rd Street.  Some 30 minutes later, the same attacker reportedly targeted the Fatih Camii Mosque, on Eighth Avenue near 60th Street in Bay Ridge.
