(WASHINGTON, D.C., 7/10/17) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today offered sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Jack Shaheen, who died last night.

Dr. Shaheen was an internationally-respected author, academic and media analyst who was the nation’s leading authority on depictions of Arabs, Arab-Americans and Muslims in the media and in American popular culture. His work was instrumental in promoting accurate portrayals of Arabs, Islam and Muslims.

“Dr. Shaheen was a scholar and teacher dedicated to challenging bigotry and stereotyping in all its forms. He was a tremendous friend of the American Muslim community and will be greatly missed,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.

Dr. Shaheen was the author of works such as “Reel Bad Arabs,” “The TV Arab” and “Arab and Muslim Stereotyping in American Popular Culture.”
