CAIR-OH: CINCINNATI MUSLIMS SUPPORT DARFUR AWARENESS EVENT
(CINCINNATI, OH, 5/2/07) – On May 1, the Cincinnati office of CAIR-Ohio co-sponsored the Darfur Awareness Night in conjunction with area Muslim organizations and other community groups, all part of the Greater Cincinnati Advocates for Darfur.
CAIR Cincinnati, the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati and Muslim Mothers Against Violence represented the Muslim community in organizing the event.
More than 500 people attended the event, the largest gathering ever held on the new downtown Cincinnati Fountain Square since its opening in October 2006. A multimedia presentation, designed a member of Muslim Mothers Against Violence, was a prominent part of the program.
“More than 500 people signed letters to their representatives and to President Bush urging them to take action to stop the violence in Darfur. It was a powerful and timely expression of the need for action,” said CAIR Cincinnati Chair Zeinab Schwen.
CAIR, America’s largest Islamic civil liberties and advocacy group, has 32 offices and chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
