“As we prepare to close the chapter on 2017, our message to Maryland Muslim families – and to families of other minority groups targeted in the current political environment is very simple: ”˜You are not alone. We have your back,” said CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad. “With the help of our partners in the civil rights community, we will continue to stand against any intolerance and hatred, and hold our elected officials accountable for their divisive rhetoric.”

“This past year reaffirmed that all forms of bigotry and intolerance are interconnected,” said CAIR’s Maryland Representative Dr. Zainab Chaudry. “Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, xenophobia, anti-Black racism, and homophobia are flip sides of the same tarnished coin cashed in by those who profit off of hate. It is more important than ever that we commit to standing up for one another. It has been an honor working alongside our communities, allies, and principled elected leaders as we navigated challenges and celebrated victories.”

Throughout the year, the Muslim civil rights organization has been a national leader in challenging injustices, promoting tolerance, and empowering diverse communities.

CAIR is America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
