CAIR Releases 2021 End-of-Year Publication Marking Highlights in Maryland

(BALTIMORE, Md., 12/24/21) – The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations today released its annual year-end publication marking highlights from throughout the year.

“We knew entering into this year that it would be a challenging one for many reasons,” said CAIR’s Maryland director Zainab Chaudry. “But the last twelve months have demonstrated what resiliency looks like in action, and how much we can collectively accomplish when we remain focused and work together for change. As the year winds down, CAIR thanks you for entrusting us to be your voice in consistently fighting for inclusivity and justice.”  

Some of CAIR’s 2021 highlights in Maryland included:

  • Annual Statewide Muslim Lobby Day with a robust legislative agenda focused on ending support for genocide; racism and hate crimes; immigrants’ rights; and police and criminal justice reform 
  • A Governor’s Proclamation and congressional citations recognizing the holy month of Ramadan 
  • Annual Muslim Youth Leadership Symposium with a theme based on conflict resolution  
  • Lawsuits on behalf of incarcerated Muslims denied religious accommodations 
  • Statewide Palestine solidarity rallies and campaigns 
  • Launch of the Maryland Muslim Prisoner Project to raise awareness and advocate for the rights of incarcerated Muslims denied access to Qurans, congregational prayers, halal meals and other religious accommodations 
  • Annual designation of October as ‘Statewide Bullying Prevention Month’ with interfaith partners; and more

Throughout the year, CAIR has been a leader in challenging injustices and promoting inclusivity, and is urging supporters to give generously to help meet its year-end goal.
