CAIR REPUDIATES ‘AMERICAN AL-QAIDA’ VIDEO THREATS
(WASHINGTON, D.C., 5/30/07) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today repudiated threats made in a video by an American member of al-Qaida warning of further attacks on the United States.
In that video, Adam Yehiye Gadahn (also known as Azzam al-Amriki) warned that unless America ends all involvement in the Muslim world the United States would face an attack worse than that of 9/11.
In its statement, CAIR said:
“We repudiate these and all other threats of violence against our nation and condemn al-Qaida’s misuse of our faith to promote attacks on civilians in America or anywhere in the world.”
CAIR has in the past repudiated the al-Qaida worldview, launched an online petition drive called “Not in the Name of Islam,” initiated a television public service announcement campaign of that same name, and coordinated a “fatwa,” or Islamic religious ruling, against terrorism and religious extremism.
