Fremont, Mountain View, and Santa Clara County have joined in commemorating the designation of August as “Muslim Appreciation Month”.  The City of Santa Clara will be presenting a proclamation later next week.

“I am proud to celebrate the first ever Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month by honoring generations of Muslim Americans for their many social, cultural, and economic contributions to California,” Assemblymember Quirk stated.

“For much of our history in America, we Muslims have been a hidden treasure,” said Lighthouse representative Sundiata al-Rashid. “In these times of uncertainty and instability, we cannot afford to fly under the radar anymore; rather we must engage our communities in a positive way.”

CAIR-CA is a chapter of CAIR, America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
