CAIR-Tampa: Acquitted Fla. Muslim’s Family to React to Upcoming Trial

(TAMPA, FL, 8/14/09) – The Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Tampa) will hold a news conference today outside the Tampa Convention Center with family members of Youssef Megahed following their naturalization ceremony.
Megahed’s trial in Miami immigration court begins on Monday August 17. CAIR-Tampa and the Megahed family members will answer questions about the upcoming trial.

Youssef Megahed was arrested in Goose Creek, S.C. in August of 2007, after being stopped for speeding. He was charged with transporting explosive materials and a destructive device and later acquitted in federal court in April of this year. Days later, Megahed was arrested by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the same charges he faced in federal court.
