CAIR Thanks D.C. Capitol Police for Arrest of Armed White Supremacist Near DNC, CAIR HQ

(WASHINGTON D.C., 9/13/2021) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today thanked United States Capitol Police after they arrested an allegedly armed white supremacist in a truck near both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and CAIR headquarters in Washington, D.C. That pickup truck was painted with a Nazi swastika and other symbols police described as “White supremacist.”

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

“We thank those diligent and observant officers who arrested this suspect and perhaps prevented another act of white supremacist violence in our nation’s capital. We welcome the growing acknowledgement of the threat white supremacists and bigots of all types pose to our nation.”

He noted that the arrest comes days before a pro-Trump rally on Sept. 18 to support imprisoned Jan. 6 coup attempt rioters.
