(SEATTLE, WA, 10/13/2017) – – The Washington state chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Washington) today announced that it is joining a coalition of organizations in launching a series of #NoMuslimBanEver protests leading up to the implementation of the Trump administration’s new “Muslim Ban.”
CAIR-Washington said actions begin Sunday, October 15 with “No Ban, No Wall, Justice for All!” rally and march at Westlake starting at 1 p.m. Speakers will include those directly impacted by racist, white supremacist and xenophobic policies of this administration.
The new Muslim Ban goes into effect next Wednesday. In response, Plymouth Church in Downtown Seattle will host The Faith Over Fear Road Show at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18. The Road Show, featuring Aneelah Afzali of MAPS-Amen and Pastor Terry Kyllo of Neighbors in Faith, will discuss how to combat Islamophobia in the United States.
On Wednesday, October 18 (time TBD) the coalition invites the community to a #NoMuslimBanEver, a pray-in and protest at the US District Court in Downtown Seattle.
“This ban has caused extreme hardship among American Muslims in our community, cutting them off from their families and furthering the bigoted and discriminatory policies and agenda of this administration,” said Sarah Stuteville Media & Outreach Director for CAIR-WA, “We stand together against this threat to our nation and the civil liberties of our communities.”
She added: “Together we’ll stand against the implementation of the most recent Muslim Ban, a fundamentally discriminatory and unconstitutional policy threatening the very character of our nation.”
