CAIR Welcomes Arrest for Racist, Xenophobic Attack on Black Man in Nebraska

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 9/11/2023) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the arrest of a suspect for an alleged racist and xenophobic attack on a black man in a Grand Island, Neb., park.

Police say the suspect threatened to kill the 24-year-old victim, repeatedly kicked him and told him to go back to his home country. The alleged assailant was arrested for assault and terroristic threats.

“All Americans should be free to go about their daily lives without fear of bias-motivated attacks or intimidation,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper. “This disturbing incident is further evidence of the growing bigotry nationwide that people of all faiths and backgrounds must repudiate and actively oppose.”

He said CAIR and the American Muslim community stand in solidarity with all those challenging antisemitism, systemic anti-Black racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, white supremacy, and all other forms of bigotry.

CAIR’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

La misión de CAIR es proteger las libertades civiles, mejorar la comprensión del Islam, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
